Manchester United winger Mbemo joined Manchester United from Brentford this summer for a total transfer fee of 71 million pounds. Since the start of the Premier League, he has contributed 1 goal and 1 assist for Manchester United in the league.
TA recently visited Mbemo’s family and growing environment. The player’s sister Mewa recalled: Mbemo is determined to join Manchester United this summer.
Mewa saw transfer rumors on social media at the time. Everyone was saying that her brother Mbemo was going to transfer from Brentford to Manchester United, but he had not told his family anything yet.
When his sister forwarded these rumors to Mbemo, he replied: "Mort de rire," which is French for "laughing."
Then Mbemo asked: "Are you alone now?" Mewa, who is a nurse by profession, left temporarily to answer a call from her brother.
Mewa remembers Mbemo saying on the phone at the time: "Don't say anything. This is not a rumor. Manchester United is interested (signing me), and I am also interested (joining them)."
In the summer, Mbemo lived at his mother's house, located 2 hours' drive south of Paris. When Mewa, who is two years older, returned home, the two slipped into the bedroom to discuss Mbemo's move.
Mevar asked: "Why go to Manchester United? Their league ranking is not very good!"
Mevar recalled this past event in an interview with TA and couldn't help laughing. She doesn’t know much about Manchester United and has only watched Brentford’s games.
Mbemo told her the history of Manchester United: "This is a club that can rebound strongly. Their game plan is very interesting and I am fully committed to it. I am a person of my word, and now I want to join them."
But Brentford rejected two offers from Manchester United. Mewa said: "You will not sign with them." Mbemo replied: "I will definitely go."
Mewa recalled: "He really wants to go to Manchester United. In his heart, there is only Manchester United."
Mbemo also found it difficult to speak when he told his mother, not knowing how her mother would react. One night, before his mother went to bed, Mbemo said: "I have something to tell you."
My mother was puzzled: "What's wrong? You scared me..."
Mbemo: "I'm going to Manchester United."
